935 vs 945 - Worth upgrading

Hi,

Now that the indepth review has come out for the 945, what are peoples thoughts about it if they will upgrade from the 935 to the 945?

  • Woooow Bluetooth range of this beauty is freaky fenomenal and I own Fenix 5+ and FR935
  • I have a 935 and have been very happy with it. Will I upgrade? Probably.
    Reasons:
Garmin pay will be useful (my UK bank is one of the ones supported). I usually carry a bank card on long runs anyway, but it will be nice not to bother, and will be handy anyway for the morning coffee where I dont need to remember my wallet.
Music - I use an ipod shuffle at the moment so am used to copying music files over. Mainly listen to podcasts - so they should be fine manually transferred. Need to work out how to get audible books working. Keep my fingers crossed for Google Play Music. Need to buy some BT headphones, and remember to charge them!
First beat metrics - I like the progress being made. Currently, the 935 metrics are interesting, but they get some things wrong (long runs dealt with strangely) and are difficult to action. Race predictor is nonsense! The changes seem to improve things quite a bit if they live up to their promises. I like the guidance of what type of training will help the most - and hoping this will follow with further integration into the extended garmin coaching plans.
Improved oHR ? We'll see... The 935 oHR is ok for steady runs, but it would be good to ditch the external HR more often.
Mapping - I use the breadcrumb navigation quite a bit on the 935 and didnt think I would use the proper maps much. However, I took a new trail recently just to see where it went and ended up going in circles and using the breadcrumb to get back to where I started. That worked.. but... I can imagine that I'll take more 'risks' on long runs if I have full UK OS maps on board. It could really change the way I run - from planning a route before I start, to just heading out the door and getting 'lost' on the trails. Very useful for running in areas I dont know too.
CIQ - lots of people are talking about the requirement to increase the fields. I would be amazed if Garmin aren't working on this. Memory and processor power are much improved compared to the old watches that are limited to 2 fields. Surely the 945 is capable, even if it means a hit in battery or UI performance ? Maybe limit it to primary fields (that can write to the FIT file) and secondary ones (that cant) ?
Finally, its new and shiny - of course I want one!

In what use case scenario can BT range be seen as a "feature" ?! It's really not something you have to worry about unless you own a poorly designed watch like the F5 ;-)

It’s in your watch is advertised so it’s a feature in my opinion. The technology is going forward and in my opinion range of Bluetooth may it be do to the poor design of the watch or not is awesome on fr945 and I own 935 also
  • I've had the 935 since Day 1, it's been my favorite watch of all I've owned (935, Ambit 2, 920, 310).  I've now had my 945 for about a week and am thrilled with it, principally due to the onboard music via Spotify. Syncing playlists is simple and seamless, my AirPods have yet to drop while wearing the watch on my left wrist - gone is the armband carrying my phone for music.
