935 vs 945 - Worth upgrading

Hi,

Now that the indepth review has come out for the 945, what are peoples thoughts about it if they will upgrade from the 935 to the 945?

  • If you want Garmin Pay, onboard music and/or maps it is. As I use the 935 for golf as well, having the 945 with all golf courses pre-stored will be great (not having to download the course data every time)
  • I did! I've had my 935 since the day it came out and it has been phenomenal for me, and still is. I can only think that the 945 with it's awesome advances will be even better. I am quite impulsive and have this need for the latest and greatest (thanks to my mother!) and this decision only took a nanosecond. Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow!
  • Can't wait, not out here yet but will surely upgrade
  • lindajm22 I'm with you on this. I was reluctant to move from the 920 to the 935 as I preferred (still do) the square form factor. However, having had the 935 for the past couple of years and got used to it, I'm definitely upgrading our 935s. We've usually found that we can pass on the older watches at approximately half price and get enough for one new one plus a bit. We usually only have to actually pay for one replacement.

Can't wait. They're on the way...
  • Have my 935 for almost 2 years now and I'm not going to upgrade.

The idea of having a all in one device (time, gps, heartrate, music) is tempting but I tried it before with a tomtom music. That was a mistake. ORM doesn't work for my during activities (not on the tomtom and not on the 935). Music isn't as good as with my trusty iPod (with bluetooth). So I end up with at least 3 devices anyway (watch, iPod, cheststrap)

I might like the map feature. I do use the navigation feature on my 935 a lot and sometimes you go the wrong way when you follow the line on your watch and there are parallel roads. But to be honest, the current navigation options are fine.

I like stats and a 945 gives you more stats. But I've also learned stats on 935 are not 100% correct. Do I really need more of that?

And there's price. I can probably sell my 935 for 200 -250 euro. A new 945 costs 599 euro. 350 euro for a couple more features of which none is essential? I don't think so.

I also like to keep my e-waste down, so 935 will be more than fine for a couple of more years.
  • I wonder if the automatically accident report sent to a certain contact comes as well for the 935 as a software update? Does that anyone know?
That would be the only reason for me to upgrade. I often ride my mountainbike alone and loved that feature on the Edge cycling computers....
  • The main limit I have about my 935 is the max 2 CIQ fields to be shown at the same time. Is it still there in 945?
  • Is it worth upgrading? Well, it depends.

What are you coming from if anything? Do you own a 935? Do you own a Fenix? 645? 235? If below the 935, why do you need the functions of the 945?

As a two year owner of the 935, yes I absolutely am upgrading. All the metrics I have on the 935 are now deeply refined in a package that looks no different really from what I'm wearing. And I don't know about you, but my 935' battery life is starting to show its age.

As for the other things everyone seems to bemoan NFC, Music/Streaming, Maps; they're coming to all the watches more or less, you don't have to use them, at all. In my line of work, I must have my phone on hand all the time, so music streaming is pointless to me. I own a Samsung Phone and use that for NFC, so Garmin Pay is useless to me (that and I have my phone all the time). As for maps? Again...have a phone on me at all times. There is no doubt people are reading this are just like me. There are also others that are the opposite, so these functions are great for you.

There's a bunch of refinement under 945's hood over the 935. It was what I thought it was and does everything the excellent 935 does, but better (on paper currently).

Bieber Isn't getting a 945? I may have to cancel my order now. :D Anyway, I guess Garmin's never going to make power meters for running native. I was hoping this would have been one of the changes to the 945.
