Activity button (top right) now freezes watch when trying to choose an activity

After updating to the latest beta, I can longer start an activity - pressing the top right button immediately freezes the watch and all other buttons. I hard reset is the only way to get things working again. Tried multiple times and it happens every time.

They gave me a re-certified replacement watch and so far it's been OK after updating to 17.28, although the buttons are weirdly sticky so not really happy on that front (maybe that's why the watch was returned by its original owner). Honestly all I really wanted was a software fix so I didn't have to deal with the data loss and setup hassles of a new watch. Hearing about all these other issues, I am figuring it's probably just a matter of time before this one has issues again. It seems like a really weirdly but randomly buggy update. I wonder if there were any hardware changes to the 945LTE from the early to late units that might explain things?
