Bug: Track Run missing data fields for Cadence and Running Dynamics?

How can a standard feature be missing?

  • Hmm that's pretty weird. I hadn't tried Track Run yet, but since you pointed it out, I tried it out and it seems wrong to me.

As a workaround, you can add my Lap+ Connect IQ data field to your track run activity. It gives you a 6-field layout (with larger numbers than the 945 LTE's 6-field layout), with your choice of fields, including Cadence (which is color-coded, like the 945's graphical Cadence gauge). Unfortunately it doesn't support running dynamics.

Lap+ also optionally shows a list of your laps (although I guess you don't need that if you're using Track Run). Couple of differences compared to the Track Run lap list:

    - You can see more than one page of laps (up to 50 laps)

    - You can customize the columns to show whatever metrics you want (1-3 columns). For example, I set up my lap list to show lap pace, lap HR and lap max HR

  • Thanks I've tried your app before but these are bugs that shouldn't exist for a premium device.

    Yup I agree 110%. See: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-945-lte/277905/bugs-in-4-16

Seems that the more expensive Garmins always have more bugs, tbh.

When I used Garmins with less features, like the older Forerunner 2xx series, at least the features that existed worked properly.

I find it super frustrating because people who buy the high-end watches are basically unpaid beta testers.

Any suggestions for improving Lap+? So far I have (at least) the following things on my wishlist:

    - Visual makeover

    - Additional layouts (e.g. 8 fields)

    - Access lap list through menu (in addition or instead of hotkey). I want to add this because the hotkey is super awkward, and if the lap list is accessible from a menu, then it would also be a lot easier to scroll through the list once you've opened it

    - More metrics

    - Customize metric in header and footer (e.g. show clock / battery level instead of lap / split number)

I do find that the 945 LTE has some of Lap+'s features as native features (like HR/Cadence gauge, 6-field layout, and lap list for Track Run), so there's less reason to use it.

    In complete agreement.

If Apple would make a running watch with at least two physical buttons and a comprehensive fitness platform (instead of having to buy/subscribe to a ton of separate apps), I would probably buy it in a heartbeat.

But that's probably not going to happen.

As it stands, you can't even add manual laps with the Strava Apple Watch app.

  • Did anyone manage to fix this?

I previously had cadence and running dynamics on my track run. But recently for a different issue related to HMR pro, garmin support made me reset my watch, since then I can't add cadence fields to my track run profile.

  • Actually Lap+ is useful also using Track Run during interval workouts since the rest intervals also take up space the built in track page only show the last 2-3 work intervals and it happened to me more than once that I needed to see more than that.

Would you consider testing/adding 955 in the near future? That would be highly appreciated, I've been using it for my 245 for long enough to feel it's missing.

  • Ohhhhh that explains a similar issue, I have so few Data Fields to choose from, in my UltraRun profile. I thought my watch was buggy in that way, but it seems like available Data Fields are profile-based. This really explains a lot.

There are important data fields missing in other Activity-Profiles too.
