Training Effect/Status/Readiness of 570 - Is it worth for non-runners?

Hi,

I have a Venu 3 and contemplating upgrading to Forerunner 570. I am not a runner (as yet and may not be one in the near future) and the main reason for the upgrade therefore is not the running performance metrics that the 570 offers. (My Venu 3 will go to my wife, so don’t mind even if it’s an incremental upgrade). But I want the Training Effect/Status, Training Load and Training Readiness (especially) indicators that the 570 provides and Venu 3 doesn’t. I want to know if:

a) These indicators are useful to someone who isn’t into running, but is walking and hiking as well as strength training, yoga etc. Will they help me plan my activities and balance with my rest better? Currently I try doing that with Body Battery in the Venu 3, but it doesn’t adequately help me in the same.

b) Would Training Effect, Load, Status, Readiness indicators start populating even if I don’t run, but just walk and do the above mentioned activities? Or, like VO2 max, it needs you to necessarily run to estimate?

Thanks in advance for your replies. Kindly do not suggest any other watch models. I respect your intention, but there are reasons for me not to go for 165/255/265 et al that are besides the focus of this post. Replies specific to the query would be of great help.

  • For the Training Status, you need to accumulate enough training load during your actvities. How much walking/hiking/strength training with a high enough HR are you doing daily/weekly? I bike a lot so I have a relatively high load per workout several times a week. When I walk, load is usually in the very low double digits. You might get something once you have build up your baseline, but again, it depends a lot on the training intensity. If push comes to shove, you can always return the watch if it doesn't work for you.

  • Thanks for the reply. My training intensity is roughly around 150 moderate intensity points per week. This is a mix of brisk walks and some strength training.  Is that enough for the TS/TE/TR to start populating?

In India, where I am, Garmin and their authorised channels don’t have the ‘return’ option. That’s unfortunate; as we pay as much as (and plus tariff) as customers in countries where they have the return policy pay.

  • I just checked my intensity minutes for the last year and it's about 106 moderate and 125 vigorous on average per week. But I would venture to say that 150 moderate minutes are good enough to create a decent baseline.

No return policy is a bummer.
