Firmware 12.70 causes my screen to shut off after a quater second of it powering on. Can still operate watch but screen stays off. How do I downgrade firmware or reinstall the firmware files?

Hello,

I updated my my FR570 to the 12.70 firmware on the 21st of August but immediately the screen will turn off after a quater second of it being on. I have to wait 10+ second and press the light button for the screen to come back on for a split second. I was able to navigate to the setting>about> hit light button 8 times and reinstall the firmware file on the watch which causes to screen to work perfectly while going through the update but then fails once it is complete. I have tried Garmin Express but that says im up to date. I've done a soft reset, hard reset, factory reset but nothing downgrades the firmware. I'm looking for the firmware file to hopefully download and manually transfer it to the watch but that is not working. Any ideas or help?

  • So far nothing. It's mostly likely a software issue that wont get fixed til they release a patch. I've sent everything they have asked but I've gotten no updates. Im most likely calling support this week and asking for them to replace the watch.

  • I asked support for help. I send them everything what they need and few days later they send me mail so I can send watch back and recive new one.
They dont inform me what was the issue.

  • TLDR: Software issue. Watches (570 and 970) with this issue most likely will not be fixed until software update is released.

It's been 70 days since I bought the watch from my local running store. It's passed their 30 day return policy so I attempted garmins limited warranty.  "Unfortunately a replacement will not work as this is software related unless they want your watch in for testing." Refunds are only allowed if its within 40 days of buying your watch on the Garmin website. Im basically stuck with this watch until a software update is pushed out fixing the issue which is nowhere in sight. Until then its a nice paperweight. I still love Garmin watches and unfortunately I just got unlucky as did others. I just wanted to pass the information to the people affected ok the 570 and 970 watch lines.
