Forerunner 265 Blue Triangle of Death

I have got the Blue Triangle of Death today.  Was scrolling through my morning report and the watch crashed, just showing the blue triangle.  I completed a hard reset (turning phone off by holding the Light button, then turning on by holding the Light, Start/Stop and Back buttons simultaneously, letting go of the Start/Stop button after the first beep, and then letting go of the other two buttons after the second beep), and this allowed me to restart the watch and sync.

However when I tried to go into a suggested run, the watch crashed again.  I got around this the next time I rebooted by ignoring the suggested workout.  This worked for 10 minutes, after which I was in changing a few settings and my watch just froze and I'm back to the start again.

I've contact Garmin support who say that this isn't covered under warranty (basically too bad, so sad!), and my email address has been added to a working list and they'll let me know when the issue is fixed, but there is no timeframe.

I see in previous posts that this issue isn't a new one, with some people reporting it 3 years ago, so basically my £300 watch, which is only 6 months old is useless (just like the customer support I've received!)

**Update**

So I went through the hard reset process again. Got everything set up and then immediately switched off the watch (long hold light button). Left it off for half an hour and then turned it on. Immediately went into a treadmill run and it has let me complete the run (47 mins) so there may be a patch out to fix it. I'll update again if the triangle returns

  • If you have the automatic data backup on, then you will be able to recover most of the data from the cloud with a very little loss. You will lose things like custom HR zones, stress calibration, watch faces etc. but everything you synced with Garmin Connect should be there, including a lot of settings. Also, if you are stuck with the blue triangle, you will not be able to apply standard software update from Garmin, I assume...

  • Hold light button and watch is not able to go off at all.

  • My FR 265 got blue triangle this moring from about 8:15 AM EST to now. Not able to hold the Light button to reboot. Not sure what coudl be done to reset.

  • Thanks! I've been searching and found that. However unless the automatic backup function was the default setting, I don't know that I changed that setting. I should know better as one who has been actively working with data and computers since DOS 3.0. I've gotten lazy in my old age.

  • Meanwhile my watch seems to be broken. Accidentally entered activtiy menu and pressed start for a GPS activity not Yoga. Again blue triangle. Then I tried the same steps I did a few hours before but now I can't factory reset the watch. No beeps, just faster blinking. I don't know what to do now. Plugging to a PC also just starts the blue triangle.

  • For me the hard reset doesn't work. I don't hear any beep. My watch is completely useless since this lunch when I wanted to start the activity. I'm wondering when we can expect a fix on this and how that fix will happen given that the watch doesn't do anything ... Disappointed

  • Same for me. Blue Triangle just cycles on and off.

  • The steps that worked for me:

    1. Hard reset (press start + power + back buttons, after the first sound, keep pressing start button)

    2. Pair the watch again

    3. Disable auto-updates

    4. Double check that "Garmin/RemoteSW/" is empty. I had to remove "CPE.bin". It seems that between I restored the config from backup and disabled auto-updates the watch downloaded this file which is supposed to be corrupted

It's working so far, hope it helps

  • We're also experiencing the same problem with a Forerunner 265 watch.  However, it's not possible to restart it at at all or connect it to a PC to use Garmin Express.  The watch shows the blue triangle for around 6 seconds, and then it goes black for around 3 seconds.  It has been doing this on repeat for hours since we started having this issue this morning.  Holding the light button (for a few seconds, 60+ seconds, etc.) does not help it reset.

  • I finally resorted to a factory reset as you have described (using more detailed instructions found on a Reddit forum). Unfortunately, the watch will NOT pair with Garmin Connect on my phone as I repeatedly get an "Unable to pair your Garmin device".

Worse, I had to delete the old profile of my FR265 from the Connect app just to get to the point that that the device could start the paring process. I have potentially lost 13 months of activity data. THAT IS A REAL PAIN in my A$$.
