Walking activity training effect way too low

Hi! Today, I did a walking acitivity of about 12km, 300m ascent. Calories seem to be calculated correctly (1000+) but the training effect was very low (only 0.6 aerobic). I also did another walk hour later (2.2 km) which calculated aerobic effect of 0.4 which seems correct. So it looks like the first activity did incorrect calculation of training effect. Is there a way to recalculate? Could it be a bug? I'd like to make sure it doesn't happen again. What was different between these two activities was that I did the first one with navigation and changed few things in settings during the activity (the watch is new so I'm still getting used to it) - that could possibly point to a source of the bug.

  • It is mostly about how high the heart rate is. Since walking is mostly a low heart rate activity, the training effect is low. I recently had a 5 hour bicycle trip with almost no training effect, and only one hour restitution time.
And then a 10 minute high intensity run can give a very high training effect and 24 hours of restitution time.

The watch does not care much about muscular endurance. It cares about cardio and VO2Max.

  • But then I don't get why a much shorter walk just hour or two later got almost same training effect. HR might have been slightly higher because I was carrying a heavy bag but not much higher.

  • Hours of activity with low heart rate does not impact the training effect. It is only affected by time with higher heart rate. Try some uphill walking that brings your heart rate up, and you will see.
