Weather widget on Forerunner 255 shows wrong data

Hello. Like many of you, I’m experiencing issues with the weather widget on my Garmin Forerunner 255. The first problem is that there's always an exclamation mark displayed next to the widget. This exclamation mark disappears if I scroll to the next widget and then return to the weather widget.

Despite that, my second issue is that the weather information doesn't match my actual location at all. It seems to update, but the data shown doesn’t correspond to where I am. I even tried entering a manual location in the Garmin Connect app, but the weather stayed the same.

I feel like I’ve tried everything: restarting the phone and the watch, reinstalling the app, removing the watch from connected devices in Garmin Connect—nothing works. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the weather info shown on my Forerunner is exactly the same as the weather widget on my Fenix 6.

For example, right now my watch shows an outdoor temperature of 20°C, while it’s actually 13°C.

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issue?

  • Exclamation Mark - Normally indicates connection to GC app is broken. App needs to remain open in background.

Weather , yes as it takes specific weather observation stations which can be in a region different from ones own sometimes at different elevations etc. Many complaints about this across many device forums.

Where I am currently its quite Ok , but when Ive been travelling and in soem othere situations its been wildly out. It also doesn't show anymore the weather location the station is pulling from (which AFAIK it used to)

  • HI all, About weather widget, a very basic question...

On my Iphone the temperature is sometimes not the same as that shown on the watch.

Where the watch takes the temperature value? Not from Iphone weather I think.

    Thanks

  • It takes it from weather stations Garmin uses not your phone

    support.garmin.com/.../

  • The watch uses the information received from Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect is supposed to use the phone's location to find the nearest weather station.

  • Are weather data visible also on Garmin Connect on the mobile? I did not find ....

  • The information isn’t visible in Garmin Connect, but you can find the setting here in the app :
Settings / User Settings / Weather Location.

  • Problem is the weather station Garmin in uses is often times not the ones apple etc are using. Its just using the location data to see where one is then finds the nearest "Garmin approved" weather site I guess.  Before the widget used to show the actual weather station being used , which was very useful as then one knew ok its from that small airport which is 30km away and in a different micro climate etc

  • I have several Garmin watches at home: a Fenix 6X Pro, a Vivosmart 4, and a Forerunner 255.
If I choose to use 'fixed location' for the weather, only my Fenix and Vivosmart 4 update according to that setting. The Forerunner 255 doesn’t take it into account.

  • Yes, in fact I can't find the setting in the app : Settings / User Settings / Weather Location.

It does not exist this path in Garmin Connect for 255
