Forerunner 255 hiking distance reported more than 10 times longer than reality.

My Forerunner 255, during hiking reports excessive distances. Less 10 km would result in 100+km reported. If i check the track, looks ok, no outlier points, nothing wrong. Is just more than 10 times the distance i actually walked.Anyone faced similar situation and knows a solution?

  • It seems i enabled 3d distances and the barometer is crazy, i went up an down many kilometers in 7km trip. I wander given the fact the device has GPS, accelerator and barometer, also we know what are the average human capabilities, then maybe some math, see Kalman filters, how can be this possible in this age in a not so cheap device.

  • Maybe they consider the possibility of using elevators or lifts. I think Strava can convert all your elevations to ground level.

  • That would be a very cool elevator. 49Km ascent, 48Km descent. I am wandering why this is so sloppy, integrating accelerator would give you a pretty accurate vertical movement, it just have a nasty drift over time. But drift could be corrected against GPS, practically one won't even need a barometer, to have some sort of sane data. But they trowed one more sensor to make it more capable, and the result is frankly a joke.
