Problem with Audio prompt (language) on laps.

This seems to be a known but still not fixed problem.

I use a Forerunner 255 with language set to hebrew, a Samsung Phone with latest android version and Garmin Connect on that phone.
I use English on phone and Connect App but the "voice settings" on the phone is French.

So when running/walking/cycling (using the watch, having the phone with me, bluetooth active) the lap counter was a French female voice for the last two years until it wasn't since some month ago. It somehow switched to an English female voice and there isn't any option to change it back.

What I tried:

- looking for the audio prompt setting on watch and connect (doesn't exist)
- checking the android settings which are still put on French voice settings
- restarted everything, resetted the watch to default, restarted over and over

Is there any fix for this I missed? It's driving me crazy

  • Is it not so, that a Garmin has disabled a voice prompt (yes, it was simply disabling of a menu item to choose language) for non music devices some months ago?

  • I really can't say. I normally don't follow the different version changes. It's just weird that I have an audio prompt but in a language I'm not using.

My phone is set to French Audio prompt, my watch is set to Hebrew. The watch has no audio prompt voice setting so my best guess is that it's either stored somewhere OR coming from the phone (which should be French)

The really weird part is that it worked before. If they disabled it between 2024 and 2025 why is it playing an audio prompt at all.
