Forerunner 255 Do Not Disturb overnight - am I doing it worng?

I have my sleep hours set to 22:00-07:00, and "Do Not Disturb/During Sleep" is also set to 22:00-07:00.

However I still always get notifications between 6am and 7am.  Have I missed a setting?

I'm not checking the watch overnight (it's on the bedside table) to cancel DnD as I've seen in other posts, though I do get to bed after 22:00 - is it cancelling it then?  I don't see any alternative - the DnD hours have to include all the sleeping hours to avoid, well, disturbing.

If I can't get it to stop disturbing my wife and me before 7 I will have to send it back.

  • I think its may not be recognising the sleep correctly as you don't have the watch on.

Are there no notifications before 6 at all? Is that because there aren't any during that time till 6am or because there are and you dont get them due to DnD?

Try and increase the sleep schedule an hour and see if that helps?

Or just turn on DND when you put if down and turn it off when you want it off in the am?

Are you saying that the setting means "don't disturb between these hours but only if the watch thinks you're asleep", rather than "don't disturb during these hours"?

I can try, but it would seem very strange for it to be an hour off (especially as my timezone is currently equal to UTC).

Unfortunately I am not reliable enough for something requiring a manual action twice a day to be reliable.  Slight smile

Honestly not sure , was just a thought.

Im not sure if it somehow starts to disable sleep earlier. esp the fact its not worn. Was just a thought to "solve " the issue

  • I was just thinking when I didn’t wear my Garmin alt night it was always off when not being worn. Given you get less metrics if you don’t wear it at night why don’t you just turn the watch an off when it’s not worn . Save batter also .

As a thought  I manage the notifications via my phone so if my phone is on so not disturb I don’t get notifications on my watch.

hope that gives you some alternatives

  • I found the customer service chat, and this is apparently how it works - the "DnD during sleep" requires the watch to actively detect you being asleep, as it were.

  • I also have a "do not disturb" mode on my phone, but that doesn't seem to stop notifications going through to the watch.

  • At least on Android phone's DND doesn't affect watch notifications (because the notifications still silently appear on the phone). Some people don't like it, some like I do, because it allows silencing the phone for a period of time and still get silent notifications on the watch.

  • I'm a new user but my advice is to completely switch off notifications coming through to your watch. In my opinion they are a pointless waste of battery - maintaining the connection and pinging and vibrating and, waste of screen space on the watch. It's a specialist sports watch, use it for that. Look at your phone if you want notifications from whatsapp
