Forerunner 255 crashes

Today the watch totaly crashed by starting a run.

Hard reset does not work, i see only the triangel.

was updates.

  • The key is the complete reset, how to do it is described on https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=wxPmdnWsev1xGRUf58oDC8, see the last item called "unprompted reset" which resets it back to factory. Then delete from your phone (both in the Garmin Connect (GC) app and the phone bluetooth) - go in to set up/connect new device on GC, repair with watch. Once paired it will offer you restore from backup if you have one (mine did but still didn't reset the watch face - but everything else was OK). Somewhere in the process GC also updates the watch and that actually fixes the problem.

  • I can’t even power off.. or back on.. can’t sync with app as watch not alive. !! This watch has not been good.

  • same here and so disappointed from Garmin support

  • my watch crashed yesterday, I had to hard reset following these instructions. Can anyone explain me what I lost?

  • Forerunner 255- For my partner I did this to their watch:

    support.garmin.com/.../

    Did the UnPrompted reset

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.

You may need to hold LIGHT for up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.

    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.

    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.

    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.

    5. After the second beep release the remaining buttons.

The reset is successful if the watch finishes powering up and goes through initial setup. Try the steps again if initial setup does not appear.

the watch resets and then connects and you open the explorer view (i'm on my computer which isn't sync to this watch) plug in cable and the file is:
    This PC\Forerunner 255 Music\Internal Storage\GARMIN\RemoteSW\GPE.bin

Important to delete that file which is the corrupt file (google if need be to confirm)

  • Forerunner 255 (in AUS) - For my partner I did this to their watch (very stubborn would not do any of the standard resets just looped over and over):

you'll probably need to resync your data with garmin express perhaps

  • My Forerunner 255 is displaying the flashing triangle as reported, I was able to turn it completely off by holding the upper left "light" button for 10+ seconds, however on restarting it repeatedly resumes the flashing triangle operation. I believe the software version is 21.22.

  • Did you do the Forerunner piece of this? It worked for me
