distance anomaly

I use forerunner 255, past two months, its showing distance wrongly, which affects my walking pace. what is the use of getting such a watch with a premium. have raised the issue with garmin support but of no use. Tried all suggestions, nothing working. Garmin has let me down.

  • Is this in an activity with GPS activated?

  • but literally thousands of people do ise gps on fr255 with no issues. so either you have some gps settings wrong (long press while tracking walking and scroll to gps section) or your watch is faulty, can't be much more than that

  • Yes of course, GPS gets activated after 1 minute still there is difference in comparison with Strava

  • FullAck!
But it's easier to blame someone else than to confess, or better to think about that I made a mistake using the tool

  • I’m experiencing the same issue with the FR255, and I’ve read about similar problems from users of other models. Since a certain firmware version (though I can’t recall which one), setting it to "only GPS" causes significant inaccuracies in distance tracking. For example, a 25 km hike can be recorded as 35 km, which is an absurdly large difference. This issue didn’t exist in earlier firmware versions.

Only when I switch the GPS setting to “All + Multiband” does it provide accurate results, but this drains the battery significantly. It’s suitable for a few hours of running but not for a full day or two of hiking. This bug emerged during firmware development, and Garmin seems does'nt want to recall to previous version of this.

  • Have you obviously checked in the system settings that the "data recording" option is set to "every second" instead of smart?

  • I have been using garmin for the last 25 years and I used to get very accurate distance readings,  but now with the forerunner 255 I get mixed readings on every run.   Something has changed!

  • I had also this issue. The solution is pretty simple.

The GPS is in fact fantastic accurate.

The watch can measure the distance over the GPS OR the step length.

You have to turn off the step length measurment and ONLY GPS:

HRM Pro Plus is paired with my FR255 music.

In settings of the HRM Pro Plus was the feature: please, please dont calculate the step length distance!!!

After that every run or walk have the exact length of GPS measuring! Good luck!

  • Pace and Distance to Indoor only is the setting you need to use on HRM Pro / Plus

  • Yes, and outdoor there is also the setting for walk and run 3D speed and 3D distance, can be activated or deactivated.

The satellite setting ist the best : All + MultiBand

For me the accuracy is more important than the battery if it lasts 3 or 4 days
