You can check out the product comparison between the 255 Music and the 945 here - Garmin | Product Compare
In the past I've owned the 945. It works fine with Ride with GPS. I believe the 255 Music and the 945 would be similar in that respect.
The biggest difference is that the 255 has no maps.
Thank you, when you say the 255 has no maps...what are you referring to or how are they used
I mostly would just want to download ride with gps cycling routes to have as a backup
It will work for ride with GPS, as the watch does have GPS tracking abilities. It just doesn't have built-in maps like the 945, which allow you to view full maps on the watch.
I prefer to have my routes stored in my Connect profile, and only download the currently relevant ones to the watch. The routes work well in the Forerunner 255, but it looks a bit strange to have just a line showing on the display, without maps to put it in context.
Hey thanks for all the thoughts
Any issues with the 945 as an older watch getting updates?
may be worth checking on software functions of x45 vs x55 watches. FR245 was years behind 255 in terms of metrics, features and all, huge gap. 945 may be the same gen and then all depends on what you need, e.g. hrv, power off the wrist etc. not sure what 945 has tbh
