Altimeter issue during starting running activity

Problem:

after the last firmware update (20.32) in random form during the running activity the altimetry recording does not work or rather the flat line with the starting altitude remains for a long time, sometimes for 10 minutes yesterday for half an hour, and then starts working correctly again. on other days instead everything works well from the beginning. so it seems clear that it is a software bug related to the last update. obviously I have already tried to turn the watch off and on again but it did not solve the problem.

The purpose of my message is to report this to Garmin and ask if it happens to others

I attach two images of workouts performed on different days.

  • I also experienced the same issue when running on track. Also, during the road run on the route there and back, the height is poorly recorded.

  • Have you ensured the barometric sensor vent (back side of the device in the border of the serial number tag) is completely free / clean? I've recently noticed that after swimming sessions the number of climbed floors wouldn't update during some time, returning to normal after a few hours... I've then realized it was some trapped water that was preventing pressure readings to be performed accurately. Rinsing the watch with tapper water and gently taping it while holding it in a orientation to facilitate eventual water drops to get out was the solution. Now I have barometric pressure readings updating as expected right after pool sessions.

Once the altitude is (I guess) obtained from the same sensor, maybe it worths to give it a try...

  • For me, this problem appears only during running activities. Without activity logging, the data is fine.

  • Thanks for your suggestion but also for me the problem It is only during running activity.

    Others Activity works fine.

So my opinion Is a software bug.

  • Same on my Forerunner 255. Ofter (maybe 1 run over 4), the does not to record the elevation.
