Forerunner 255 v20.26 adds jumps in step count

Since updating to v20.26 I noticed twice that after a run activity the step count is shown twice as high as I expect, then in around 10 minutes it goes down to the expected value.

The high number of steps was displayed on the watchface immediately after completing the activity. It was increasing during walking, then some time later it was back to a reasonable value.

This jump in the graph is not visible in Garmin Connect, but visible on the watch.

It's this yet another bug in 20.26, or it has been there before, just I didn't notice it yet?

  • That has happened to me before. Sometimes the watch senses too much movement then later reassess (so to say) and ignores that movement

  • If it's what I'm experiencing, that is caused by Physio TrueUp while using a HRM strap capable of measuring steps (like HRM Pro(+)). I've noticed that somehow right after the activity the steps from the strap are added to the steps counted by the watch, causing the spike. Then a sync or two later Physio TrueUp notices that these are from the same time period and the double counted steps are removed. This has been happening at least since I got my 965 (a little over a year ago).

  • That makes sense.

I have been using the HRM Pro Plus for a couple of months, but yesterday was the first time I noticed it. Maybe I just didn't pay attention.

    Thanks.
