Difference in "anaerobic" vs "sprints"

Today we ran 20 sec all out sprints with 2 minutes of recovery walk between for 14 rounds. My 255s labeled it as anaerobic and my friends Fenix registered  hers as sprints. Obviously we have different heart rates etc. My question is what is the difference? I've only ever seen sprints on my watch with hill sprints.

  • I don't think I have ever seen sprints. Here are some labels from Firstbeat that don't mention sprints:

  • "Sprint" is a full short effort while "Anaerobic capacity" is longer and slower, but still pretty fast, intervals.

Would be helpful to have the details of both activities to try to understand where is the difference. Personally, "Sprint" is one of those training effects that i rarely fail because it's really particular and if done correctly can't give something different.

Did you follow DSW's instructions? Did both of you run in the same way while having different VO2max? Chest strap or optical sensor?

  • It can be for many reasons, if you both are using only the optical heart rate monitoring of the watch, is the first one, because they possibly arent accurate, if you need accuracy use chest strap, and indeed in sprints or intervals more needed, the OHR normally arent recommended for sprints or anaerobic intervals, then after that, because your body is not the same as her, not the same Max heart rate, etc, etc, etc, but as i told you, for accuracy you need a good chest strap, regards

  • I have a forerunner 965 and I follow it's daily suggestions. When it proposes a sprint it's short 15s and very fast < 3min/k

Anaerobic is longer at 40-60s and slower <4min/k

Anaerobic tends to be just under the fastest 1k pace I could ever run while sprint is my top speed I could hold for 100m

Watches are different but I would take it as a compliment Smile

Or alternatively you started before and after your friend you can ran the interval slightly longer hence why it's labelled differently

  • I did sometimes, but needed a chest strap to work well, each time the watch recommends sprints workout then i wear chest strap and later shows, Sprint workout https://postimg.cc/47YCYNyy
