Heart Rate Data and External Coros Arm Band Monitor

Latest Firmware update to Garmin 255 has rendered Coros arm band HR Monitor useless. I deleted the device, re - paried to my Android phone . Device shows as connected to my 255 when I start a run , but no heart data is communicated to the watch. Separate issue, but using wrist based HR monitor on the 255 seems more inaccurate than ever. , showing insanely high heart rates at very low intensity, I have tried shutting the watch down, re-sterting, heart rates still way too high for the effort exerted.

  • And therefore we need to communicate as beta testers, that something is broken ;-)

  • Yes, so until there is the stable release we will not know about, beta firmwares are unstable firmwares and this is the real mission of it

  • How do you know if the heart rate monitor is where the heart rate is coming from? And not your watch

  • How do you know if the heart rate monitor is where the heart rate is coming from? And not your watch

  • In settings, under health and wellness, disable the wrist heart rate. The only source of heart rate data when you are performing an activity is the external monitor.

  • Hi, so the Garmin 255 won't automatically switch to the external heart rate monitor (such as the Coros band). Do I have to disable the wrist heart rate every time before wearing the Coros band and starting an activity?

  • In my experience, even with source switching enabled, the only way to guarantee the connection to the external source is to disable the wrist based monitor. - and my  continued observation of the wrist based monitor on the 255 is it is wildly inaccurate during any form of exercise, including walking - the device displays extremely high heart rates during exercise despite shutting watch down and re-starting during a session.

  • The battery died in my chest heart rate monitor, but I didn't notice. So the watch became the only heart rate monitor. I did a tempo workout 2 mile warmup 6@tempo 1 mile cool down. Looked at my average heart rate and it was oddly low. Looked at the heart rate graph and it showed my heart rate varying around the same bpm from warmup through tempo through cool down. FIgured out the issue, new batteries for the chest strap and all good again.

The watch heart rate monitor just does not work for me. Is there anyone that finds it completely reliable?

It's bizarre to me that something so completely unreliable is sold as a mainstream product.

  • Thank you so much for your detailed response—it really cleared up my doubts. I’ll follow your suggestion and use the Coros heart rate arm band for now. I was indeed confused by the heart rate monitoring of the Garmin 255, which is why I decided to purchase an external heart rate device. If Garmin’s HRM 200 chest monitor becomes available in my country in the future, I’ll consider purchasing one to use as well.

  • With Polar Verity Sense external Arm Band Monitor there is no problems at all.
