I'm just back from doing a rather gruelling 10K run. My max HR went up to 202bpm. I have my Fenix 6S set to automatically detect the new max HR. For whatever reason this did not occur and the max HR remains at my earlier reading.
I notice under Physiological Metrics that I have autodetect set for all three categories - Max HR, Lactate Threshold (when I'm wearing the Garmin Pro Plus HM strap) and FTP. Not sure if this may be a complicating factor or if it is fine to remain as such?
Given the above, I'm wondering whether it might be better manually sitting the notes, using 202bpm as the new reading? I had assumed Garmin did not automatically update and recalculated the zones based on this reading as it is the first time I have reached this HR - assuming that the max may update when this is reached on a few occasions. But not quite sure.
I understand that a Max Threshold Lactate test may produce the most accurate reading, but until I perform one I was thinking of keeping autodetect Max HR on. Is the consensus that one should input manually in this case?
