[19.18] Forerunner 255 permanently loosing GPS during bike rides

Since the last update to firmware 19.18 i now had two outdoor bike workouts, during which my Forerunner 255 lost GPS and didn't reconnect.
There was no notification about the lost GPS signal, i just found out after the workout, that half of the GPS based data is missing.
So after loosing the signal, the watch didn't record any more GPS based data.

Example 1: GPS lost halfway during the workout, no more map data and no more speed data after that (also overall average speed calculation wrong because of missing data)

Example 2: GPS lost in the middle of the workout, no more map data recorded. However all other signals, including speed and elevation are fully recorded

In both cases, those were open roads, nothing that could block the GPS signal.
Also i rode those roads before the update to 19.18 without any issues.

The satellite setting is "automatic" / The GPS firmware is version 10.00

Anyone else with those issues?
This should be fixed asap, as this makes workout recording useless, if half the data is missing!

  • Same behaviour as example 2 again yesterday (this time satellite setting "all + multiband"):
Midway into the the bike ride, after some GPS dropouts, the watch decides to not record any map/GPS data again.

All other data is there (elevation, speed, HR, ..)

Additionally this time it took the watch 5-10min to lock in GPS before i could start the ride. Blue sky, not obstacles. This never happened before 19.18.

  • I'm happy to help. I would like you to test and see if the following help:

    • On the watch, hold the middle left button and scroll UP to System > Data Recording > Frequency. Set that to "Every Second"
    • Power your watch off/on
    • Sync with the Connect app before your next activities
    • Before you actually start the activity, wait on the "Ready" screen for a few minutes before starting. This is called a GPS Soak, and allows the watch to gather more satellites while you wait.
    • Change the GPS setting to All + Multi-Band

If you are still experiencing GPS drop outs or having to wait a long time for GPS to be located, please allow me permission to reach you via email and view your Connect account so I can see the activities.

    Thank you!

  • I'm also having issues with GPS but on running activities. The elevation and power data does not work, it keeps 0 the entire activity even when I'm running in places with a lot of elevation variation.
