Memory handling on 255

With the older watches there was always this memory overflow, when there were too many activity data on it.

You had to delete the protocol from time to time.

Is this still the case with the 255 or is there some smart auto-delete function of older data?

  • I have owned my FR255 for about 18 months now and have not had any "memory overflow" error, which I didn't know even existed.

One thing I noticed though. When I got the watch, Garmin Connect was giving me access to the News Feed without time restriction. Just needed to scroll down to go back several years back to see my friends' activities for example.

A few months ago, I noticed that the News Feed is now restricted to a mere 3 months worth of historical. Is there a way to change this in the settings ? Can't find.

Don't know if it's related to what you're asking but perhaps the watch now just stores less historical than before ?...

  • I have a 955 and the UI only shows activity history back to April 1. If I connect the watch to a computer via USB, the activities folder only has data going back to February (about 200 items / 34 MB - I use 1-second recording). I've owned the watch since August 2023.

So yeah, my watch auto-deletes activities and I'm pretty sure the same goes for any watch in the current "generation" of Garmin devices.

Furthermore, if your watch supports music, then it definitely has enough storage that it would be unlikely to ever run out of storage space due to recording too many activities anyway.
