VO2 max dropped rapidly in a few days

Dear everybody,

Can anyone explain the fact that VO2 max dropped by more than 20 points in just a few days?

watch: forerunner 255

heart rate monitor: hrm

(in the last month I have replaced treadmill running with spinning)

Stable weight. Watch and band always the same. I think it's an error in the Garmin software.

  • in the last month I have replaced treadmill running with spinning

It is no VO²max estimation calculation possible for indoor activities.

  • Runalyze shows me some VO2Max adjustments from Garmin's files after my indoor rowing and elliptical sessions. A few over the past month or so.  All upward adjustments.

(I ignore them, I don't think they mean anything)

  • The Garmin watch can only measure VO2Max from outdoor running, but if you go a long time without measurements, it will try to estimate changes in VO2Max based on any workouts you do.

  • Yes I understand, we had discussed this a few weeks ago.

That's also why I mention I ignore those adjustments. But, they still show in Garmin's files which is what the OP is essentially inquiring about. Such an abrupt adjustment doesn't make sense to me, since both treadmill and spinning activities are indoor activities: this large adjustment can't be explained by a shift from indoor to outdoor activity or vice-versa.

  • walking is also measurable and in the gc its shown in vo2max; cycling is shown as cycling vo2max

  • adjustment can occur but not extreme values maybe 1 by 1 in my experience. for example when heat acclimation increases the vo2max reduces because the oxygen in the air decreases in hot weather. when I dig in why vo2max decreases I find that its the algorytm which garmin explains. altitude acclimation is working just like that. the more acclimation brings the vo2max down.
