Is there any way to get the training programs to use heart rate goals instead of minutes-per-mile?

Is there any way to get the training programs to use heart rate goals instead of minutes-per-mile? I'm a senior, and the min/mi goals suggested are way faster than I have been able to achieve for at least 5 years. At my age, it makes more sense to monitor heart rate rather than speed. I've checked the settings on my 430, but don't find a solution. I know POLAR watches use heart rate goals in their running programs, but I like the rich assortment of other data that the Garmin 430 provides.

  • Yes, this can be changed. The option is quite hidden in the menu for the daily training suggestions. This is where you can also set the day for the long training session and so on. I suspect that the option is called "Target type", but I'm not sure as I don't use an English interface.
