Vo2 max bike setting

Hello I've set a racing event in calendar and a time goal so I get Garmin coach to suggest every day training workouts untill race day. But unfortunately I have a small injury so tried out bike suggestions but it says I have to get or set a vo2 max reading for it to work. Searching for this it seams I can only set a vo2 max setting only if I have a power meter on the bike? Can trick the watch and set it manually so I can ALSO get bike suggestions when I can't run.
