Garmin HRM Dual - extremely strange problem

I've been using my HRM-Dual for over year now, without any issue. Until today.

First this morning, I did my 45min cardio @HR140 on the elliptical and zero issue, worked like a charm, as usual.

Then I jumped on the treadmill to try some of the anaerobic exercises suggested by and in another thread, and after starting the Treadmill activity on my watch, my HR wouldn't go over 115-120. Was stuck in this area despite me running like a rabbit. The treadmill has its own HR-monitor and it was giving me the 160-170 I was expecting. The HRM-Dual was really stuck.

Here's what I tried so far that didn't work: re-humidifying the chest strap, unclipping the HRM-Device and reclipping it, rebooting the watch, try the Cardio mode instead of Treadmill.

I also went back to the elliptical, and the HRM-Dual would work perfectly on it ! I also tried the rowing machine after, and no problem either ! It is ONLY on the treadmill that the HRM-Dual doesn't work. There's more: our gym has 3 different models of treadmill, and ALL 3 give me the same issue !

The only thing I haven't tried yet is changing the battery. I don't see why that would be the problem since it works on the elliptical and the rowing machine... but... I think the battery should have in the region of 300 hours of use by now, so perhaps it's time to change it anyway...

Any other idea ?... This one really annoys me.

  • Riddle, you can try  ANT+ HRM Heart Rate Monitor , there will be at least some additional information.

It will be possible to compare the readings of the оptical sensor and Dual.

In addition, maybe simultaneously watch Dual readings on a smartphone via BT.

  • I have changed the battery of my HRM-Dual and this morning no issue with my intervals on the treadmill. I am of course not saying this was the problem. Could be something else I don't know what it is.

  • I have a Polar H10 which is connected by bluetooth to my FR255M. Yesterday I had a long easy run and the hr went down multiple times. I paused the activity and check the H10 on the phone, and I get the normal HR, but not on the watch. I had to buy the strap because the built-in optical sensor is useless, but now I am considering to sell my watch and buy a Polar or Coros instead. The battery is almost brand new in the strap.
