Lost bluetooth connectability

Garmin 255s and Pixel 5 running android 14 with Garmin Connect 4.76

The watch's software auto-updated to software verson 18.23, I think a few days ago [DFU-768d81]

I used it just fine on a half marathon on 3/17, and then again on a recovery run this morning.  No issues syncing etc

At some point a few hours ago, it disconnected from my phone and has not been about to connect again via bluetooth.

To troubleshoot: I restarted the devices multiple times. I had the phone "forget" the watch in bluetooth settings and tried to pair the phone and watch as new devices but 2 just don't "see" each other. I deleted and reinstalled the garmin connect app again.  The phone is connecting to other bluetooth devices just fine (ie earbuds, speaker).  Both devices are in the pairing modes and physically next to each other.  I'm not sure what else to do.  No physical damage to either, especially in the past few days etc.  Considering doing a factory reset on the watch but I like a lot of my settings and don't want to have to redo all of them if I don't have to.

Greatly appreciate any advice.  Thanks,

  • Edit / Add:  I just reset the device settings to the factory default values (and tried to save all user-entered information and activity history) by using Reset Default Settings as per the user manual.   Still not connecting

  • No advice but I had exactly the same problem when my 255 watch updated to beta 18.xx (before the 18.22 and 18.23 Live releases).  I went throught the same steps on my android 12 phone and was unable to pair successfully.  I even did a factory reset of my watch but nothing worked.  Bluetooth on my phone was working (and continues to work) perfectly with other devices like my ebike and my Wahoo Roam.  I finally gave up trying when I discovered that I could pair my watch to my iPad with no issues and decided it wasn't worth spending more time trying to get my 255 paired with my phone anymore.  If I ever get a new Garmin watch (not certain I want to with all these problems), I might try pairing with my phone again.

  • I have the same problem. After every attempt, including a master reset, the problem have solved. When I paired the watch as new watch it worked and get connected, but if I disconnect bluetooth, at next attempt it doesn't connect anymore, and I should do the master reset again. I found that the problem is my phone with android 11, because I tried to pair the watch with another smartphone and it works, always, even I disconnect and reconnect bouetooth, for example if I go out without my phone, When I come back home it reconnect automatically. But it's not good, because I don't want to change my smartphone only to let the app working well.
