18.22 External HRM Connected, Green Lights on watch stay on

18.22 updated yesterday.

All previous activities, when external HRM (Garmin Dual) is connected, green lights turn off when activity is started.  This is how I’ve always been confident that it’s grabbing the correct HR.

Ran this morning, chest strap is connected.  Green lights stay on when activity is in progress.  Took the chest strap off, HR is not on watch.  Okay.  So it was working.  Get going again, green lights stay on.  Take watch off, HR stays on screen, green lights off.

Is this a bug?  Is it how it’s supposed to be?  I hate not knowing if it’s grabbing the correct HR from the chest strap or just using the ohr.

Any thoughts?

  • Some people are probably paying attention.

  • Some (rare) people are trying to use FRx55 as a sport watch. It may be the issue. I use stryd to get instant pace and an external HRS to get realistic HR. Angry

  • Update to last 19.18 and disable the use of the optical HR sensor with the external HR device, I configured it like this and the ohr of the watch is off meanwhile training, just be sure to before starts the watch and the external device is connected.

  • The fr255 ohr is very capable as least my unit, I checked the data between the chest strap and the watch when running and is almost the same 1 or 2 beat below or above, indeed doing sprints also very close, not as fast response as the chest strap but very close, if I am not doing sprints I run only with the watch in long steady runs and very happy with it.
