How to change sleep goals?

A long sleep for me is 7 hours, and I usually sleep 6.0 - 6.5 hours per night. I have scheduled 7 hours for sleep, but my watch still expects me to sleep 8 hours or so each night. I can see it now with the new sleep coach. This explains why Garmin always complains that I slept too short when I wake up well rested after a normal sleep. If I tried to sleep as long as the watch recommends, I would get more tired, and struggle to sleep the next night.

I can't seem to find anywhere to adjust the sleep goal. I can change step goals, so why not sleep goals? There are big differences between people. Some people need 5 hours, some need 10.

  • Perhaps this works in such a way that Garmin analyzes your previous sleep statistics and daily load, giving recommendations on the duration of sleep at night? My sleep coach gives me half an hour extra after a high-stress day. My usual sleep recommendation is 7.40, but I usually sleep a little less, around 7-7.30 if you look at the last week. OK, I looked at the last week and I sleep as recommended. Slight smile

  • I never had any high stress days yet. The watch always says I had a low stress day or relaxed day in the evening report.

  • Mine says:
"You need a normal amount of sleep today.

You should feel good on your normal 7 hours 40 minutes of sleep. Nice work staying balanced!

But the issue is that I never sleep 7h 40m. A long weekend sleep for me would be 7 hours. So the baseline is not based on how much I actually sleep. I would have liked to shorten the baseline with at least an hour, since I seem to need less sleep than the average person.
  • I agree.  I operate best on about 6 hours.  Anything more than that, and I tend to feel groggy.

Yesterday, it told me I needed 7hr 40min sleep.  I ended up having a 30min nap mid afternoon and was then informed I only needed 7hr 20min sleep.

Because I laid in bed cuddling the dog this morning and was extremely relaxed, I met the sleep goal and it recorded 7hr 29min sleep.  But it now tells me I need to sleep 8hr 10min tonight because of my poor sleep history.

Doesn’t really make sense to me.
