Elevation 'stuck' during run so no Ascent data Software version 17.26

on some runs the elevation data does not update during the run. I have autocalibrate on, but today I even calibrated the altitude just before the run to make sure. Alas, it got stuck at that altitude and therefore again no elevation data. Altimeter, GPS and barometer on the watch work fine. I have not found any obvious similarity between runs where this happens. I did NOT happen until about 2 months ago (I should check this )
Obviously irritating as I run plenty of hilly tracks

Does anyone else have this problem?

Update: I just noticed that also the Temperature data is stuck for these runs  So now I am worried it may actually be a sensor

  • Check if your reference holes are clogged.

  • everything seems clean and what is more, the altitude calibration immediately prior to the run works...  (ok, so maybe not a sensor)

It could of course simply be a bug..  not a hardware problem. But then others would have this as well

  • It uses GPS to calibrate the altitude at the start of an activity, and then the pressure sensors from there. Do you get floor count?

  • I just checked, on the days that things go wrong also the floor count is definitely wrong  but not 0...  but other (most) days everything is fine. This is an intemittent error but the frequency is increasing..

  • My garmin 255 highly inaccurate  (since day 1 of bought it) floor counts, hilly walks & runs despite calibrating altimeter, barometer etc all the time. The watch ports are kept clean etc.  Amazon & garmin not cared as won't refund it .   Should have stayed with Fitbit which was more accurate .  Researching next smartwatch then going to get rid of the 255 as it's rubbish !

  • Thanks for that feedback. I have good experiences with the 935 and 945 so I had no hesitation to buy the 255. If this were a problem with the 255 I would have expected to read more about this fault.

The real problem is that the fault is intermittent. I guess it is the pressure sensor.
