Sleep start

I have set my sleep hours to 10pm - 6am in GC.

However, my FR255 in general starts recording me as asleep starting 9pm. Probably because that's the time when I lie in bed to watch TV and I stop moving and my HR starts slowing down or whatever it is Garmin is doing to guess when I'm sleeping.

My question is: is there a way to force the watch not to start recording sleep before... a certain time ?

  • yeah, i have the same problem. garmin actually shows the extra hour or 2 as being mostly awake time but still considers my sleep to have started. this throws all the HRV and recovery metrics out

i logged an issue with support who said:

When you have a sedentary with a low heart rate, especially close to bedtime, the watch will detect sleep.  This is by design.

You may adjust your sleep time to a later time, but this will not necessarily resolve the issue completely.  This will however allow  you to manually change the watch into Sleep Mode when you do go to bed.  We suggest that you may add the 'Sleep Mode' option to the Controls Menu for greater control when the watch does enter Sleep Mode incorrectly.

  • Thanks for the response. I have contacted Garmin Singapore on this and they suggested that I remove the watch and wear it back at the time of going to bed. ROFL !

But something else happened since I posted my question: the start of sleep has now become - surprisingly - very accurate, within 10 minutes of what it is in reality so I withdraw my initial complain. I don't know what changed. I still watch TV in the sofa for about 2 hours before going to bed but it no longer starts recording my sleep at that time. Even sitting in bed reading doesn't trigger the start of the sleep. It is really at the time I switch off the light, stop moving and close my eyes and the watch detects my start of sleep. Amazing. (until this changes)
