Music control on non-music Forerunner 255? SOLVED

So I checked all of that before posting, but it never gives me the ability to interact with what's playing on my phone through the watch. I can open up the music controls on the watch but they don't do anything.

Which media player do you use on your phone? Try it with the default one.

So I'm listening to Spotify on my phone. I guess I'm expecting to be able to use basic widget phone controls on the watch. Pause, play, next, previous.

You can control Spotify on the phone with the music controls on the watch. Switch music provider on the watch to control phone. 

But that's what I'm trying to say there's no such option to switch music providers on the watch.

My watch, BT connected to my phone as my phone plays Spotify, shows nothing on the watch music control widget.

Right. Since it isn't a music version it only got control phone 

But there is a music control widget on the watch. Why? I understand the *music version would allow for loading of music on the watch & more functionality, but the non music version has a basic control widget
