VO2max is wrong

Got my watch 2 weeks ago and it immediately showed a VO2Max of 51. I have rarely trained in my life (I'm 30) and the last Garmin watch I used for some weeks showed a much lower number. When I check the timeline of VO2max, it has registered 51, three times over the last two weeks. Two times with walking and one time weight training. In this period, I have been running as well (outdoor with gps and indoor on a treadmill) with no VO2 estimate. All my profile data is correct and it is not from and old watch or whatever.

Can someone help me, or is it just something wrong with the watch?

  • Have you entered a right data such a weight, height?

  • It would help if your VO2 max data was also coming from your run activities. Can you confirm that you are meeting the requirements listed in What Is VO2 Max Estimate and How Does It Work? It may also help to set up run-specific heart rate zones. You can do this by following these steps in the Connect app:

    1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

    2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

    3. Select Garmin Devices.

    4. Select your device.

    5. Select User Profile

    6. Select Heart Rate & Power Zones

    7. Select Heart Rate > Sport Heart Rate > Add Sport

      • From here, you can choose whatever you like. You can adjust your Max HR. if needed and base your zones off of that, for example.

    8. Select Done or back all the way out of these screens.

If you meet the requirements and still don't see VO2 max data from run activities, please let me know if I may have permission to view your Connect account and reach you via email.

  • I confirm that I meet the requirements. At least I think so. My puls was over 70% of max heart rate and over 10 minutes outside. Gps was on.

I now added a sport heart rate to running but I dont know what more to do other than just leave the info as is. My max heart rate was calculated in a very heavy interval session right after I bought the watch.

You have permission to look at my account. I would love to fix this issue. I still think its a little bit strange that the watch cant notice I have much lower VO2 max from the three workouts it logged and that the number was there when I set up the watch. What do you think the reason is?

hope to hear from you in my mail after you checked my account! Thanks

  • I see you reached out to Product Support and they are gathering details to create a report! Hopefully it can be resolved soon. Have a great day Slight smile
