Long MP3s for audiobooks don't play properly

I have 5 decent-size audiobooks loaded onto my Forerunner 255 Music device as MP3s, totaling about 45 hours. Trying to listen to a 10-hour long audiobook MP3 I find that the audio will sometimes jump backwards about 15-20 minutes from when I was listening, though the progress bar (or 'ring') stays the same. For example, I got about 30 minutes into an audiobook, and then it randomly jumped back to about the 15 minute mark, and I had to relisten to the same portion of the book, but the progress bar never moved and progressed from 30 minutes to about 45.

Furthermore, when I try to scrub through the book with the buttons, it skips 0-1 seconds (instead of 30 sec as it's labelled), and if I press the button repeatedly it gets stuck and won't progress at all. Repeated the same word that it is stuck on every time I press the button.

Some info about the device:

  • Forerunner 255 Music
  • Brand new (maybe 3 weeks old)
  • Only about 40% of the device storage is used by the MP3 files
  • Generally, you can divide and rename them automatically into e.g. chapters (by silence gap) using Audacity free SW. (Function "Label Sounds..."). It works perfectly.

  • I have the same issue. This makes basically impossible to listen to podcasts or audiobooks. This is a pitty since it was the main purpose of buying the music version for me (I run listening to audiobooks and podcasts).

I abandoned the idea of using the watch for this, now I always run with my smartphone (which kills the purpose of the music version of the watch).

For sure, I'll never buy a music version anymore:-(

  • There is one more significant advantage with the Music version. It has WiFi. This is very nice for syncing and downloading upgrades for those of us who rarely connect to mobile phones.

  • Ah... That's right! I agree with you that's a great advantage indeed, I forgot about that.
