Does the device adjusted the heart rate %zone of sport automatically?

My FR255 Settings:

  1. Max heart rate: Auto
  2. LTHR: Auto
  3. Resting HR: Use average
  4. Normal HR zone: Based on %Max HR
  5. Sport HR zone: Based on %HRR

Content:

I found that my ‘Sport HR zone’ changed which I don’t know when and why did it change.

However, I also checked ‘Normal HR zone’ but it didn’t change.

I set the %zone the same between normal and sport HR, the difference is how it calculates(max HR and HRR).

%Zone setup

Z5: 90-100

Z4: 80-90

Z3: 70-80

Z2: 60-70

Z1: 50-60

I know that the bpm will change according to the max HR and RHR but what I’m confusing is the % that I set was changed.

The change of my ‘Sport HR zone’, please see in the picture.

Question:

  1. Is this normal that %HR zone automatically changed?
  2. What is the factor of this change?

FYI: My Max HR has been increased few weeks ago. I suspect this as the cause. Tbh Only thing that change should be the bpm which based on the calculation but not the %zone, right?

This has happened to me before.  Technically, no, the zone percentages should not change.
I’ve had to go in and manually set them back to the correct percentages many times but now it’s been good for months.

  • Is this normal that %HR zone automatically changed?

If you set lthr and max HR detecting automatically - yes.

    1. What is the factor of this change?

Seems to be like a blackbox. If i choose to set it automatically 3 weeks later i get a 5 zone about only 98-100% max HR hence i never reach my anaerobic aim. So switch it to manually or reset the zones every time you go exercise. It is a nastier BUG but it to difficult for Garmin to fix such a thing.

  • I have everything set to automatic, but my zone percentages never change. I set them myself when I got the watch, and they are still the same. Max HR and LTHR are changing based on my workouts.

I have my zones set based on max HR. I suspect that those who experienced changes are using a more complex setup which also involves resting heart rate.

  • Have set the zones to %LTHR, maybe it is the issue. And my max HR drifted  from 181 to 176 last time a lthr fell a little too. Despite this, it is not ok that it is not adjusted or adjusted incorrectly.

  • The zones are defined as percentages of maximum heart rate. It makes sense that the percentages stay as they are when the maximum heart rate is changed, but that the percentages change if they are based on something else.
