Update 16.19 has bricked my FE255 Music

Today after a good walk in the morning with my Forerunner 255 Music, I was taking a rest.  I got a notification that new update is downloaded and is ready to install. I chose to install now. After few minutes, the update was installed, an  the watch said restarting.  Instead of watch face, it showed 'Spotify has been added to your music apps.'  I waited for several minutes, but the above mentioned screen stayed. No button press work.  On reaching home, the watch was connected to Garmin Express.  It is not able to detect it.  What to do now ?

  • Press and hold the Light button till the watch turns off, it will take 15 seconds. Soft reset is done. Slight smile

  • I have done it, after the watch restart, the same display about Spotify appears and it remains there. No button work.

  • I don't have much experience (fortunately), but I would try using Garmin Express (connected to the PC with a cable) to recognize the watch. As if you could uninstall an application through that as well. It seems the Spotify app gets stuck during the startup process, so that would have to be deleted somehow ...
If Garmin Express can't see the watch either, you'll have to contact support.
If you already have the watch connected to the PC, you should also check if it is seen as a storage by Windows. Support may ask for the contents of certain directories (which may help in troubleshooting).

  • I have hard reset the watch. It is now ok. Shall never install Spotify again.

  • I have hard reset the watch.

How did you do that? Can't you just do it from the menu once the watch has started?

  • I’ve had the same issue directly after the upgrade to 16.19, but the issue was resolved after I had the ConnectIQ app on my phone update the apps on my watch (which included a Spotify update). Everything is OK again now.

  • I did the unprompted hard reset. I pressed the start + back + light button and when the blue triangle appeared on watch display, released the start button first, then light button and then back button.  The watch got reset, then paired the watch with my mobile, Connect recovered all my saved data.  Never again I shall install Spotify ap. Anyway I was not using it.

  • I didn't know about this method before. Thanks! Of course I hope I never need it. In the meantime I found it by the name (unprompted reset). It's quite a big problem that an application like this can kill the watch. Maybe it's always a good idea to refresh everything in Connect IQ before updating firmware.

  • I always update update all my apps in Connect IQ when it prompts me.  I had updated Spotify just yesterday. Anway, let it be.  All is well that ends well, even after the update Relaxed️.
