Auto detection of heart rate and threshold is enabled. Never seems to update. watch is on 15.19. Any idea of things to try to have these data points update. Last Threshold update was from a test back in Nov 2022. Current tests always fail.

Auto detection of max heartrate has worked for me a couple of times, but it happens rarely, probably only when you do a particularly heavy workout, and it works only if it notices that your current max hr is wrong. So if your max hr is correct it is normal that your watch won't update it.
On the other hand the auto detection of lactate threshold has worked, for me, just one time in October and then it just never happened again. There were threads about it not working/being buggy... I don't know if this has been resolved or not, but I haven't got any new readings.
Same problem here. Moved from Coros to Garmin about two months ago. Forerunner 255 initially determined my threshold pace @4:15/km and threshold heart rate at 171. I've done a 5k and 4 mile race since then. Both with average pace around 3:38/km and a heart rate between 172 and 175. Heart rate @4:15/km (tempo run effort) is in the 150-155 range under normal conditions. Coros estimated, before they messed up with their latest revamp of calculating running fitness, my threshold pace at 3:48/km and heart rate at 172 which was about right (10k race pace usually 3:42-3:45/km). So what's going on here?
Edit: race pace estimates are fairly accurate, albeit a bit on the conservative side especially for 10k and half marathon. So threshold values not updating seems to be a bug.
I think Garmin likes to see a progressive increase of running load with external heart rate sensor to see that heart rate variability drops below a certain level to determine a new threshold pace or threshold heart rate estimate. If you run at constant high load, it will probably not measure threshold values.
Thanks for your quick reply. I forgot to mention that the two races are not the only runs I did. I run 5 to 6 times per week. Usually about two interval sessions and about 2 to 3 tempo runs in various zones. And about 2 to 3 races per month (less during summer, hence only 2 races in 2 months). So lots of variation in heart rate and tempo, there should be enough data for a closer estimate by now. I'm also using the latest Garmin HRM-Pro monitor.
