Clarification on Suggested Daily Workout vs. Training Load Focus

Hello Garmin Community,

I've been using the Forerunner for over a year now and have largely followed its Suggested Daily Workouts, which I find beneficial. However, I've noticed a recurring emphasis on Base trainings, resulting in an abundance of low aerobic activity. With my consistent training—almost daily following these suggestions—it sometimes feels as if the system tends to sidestep more strenuous workouts.

On checking the Training Load Focus, I see recommendations leaning towards more anaerobic activities, which seem to be infrequently suggested in the daily workouts.

I'm left with a few questions:

1. Should I prioritize the daily suggestions, or balance them with the Training Load Focus insights?
2. Should I occasionally skip a day, hoping the next suggestion might be anaerobic?
3. Is it advisable to override a daily suggestion by selecting a more intense workout scheduled for upcoming days?
4. Has anyone come across official documentation or guidelines addressing this? I haven’t been able to locate any.

Your insights and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Warm regards,

V.

  • Hi V!

It all depends on your training goals of course. If you want to increase fitness, these are one workouts, if you want to lose weight, then they are completely different. In general, it is difficult to advise. If you're in shape and want to improve your running ability, then use the 80/20 formula, it's something that works for everyone :)

  • Hi global,

Thank you for your response. I'd say that my primary goal aligns with enhancing my overall fitness. In a sense, I prefer simplicity – I'd rather not dwell too much on specific goals and training plans, opting instead to rely on my Garmin. Yet, I've noticed that sometimes my Garmin's suggestions appear somewhat contradictory, prompting my outreach to this forum. I'm keen on understanding how best to harness the tools and metrics that Garmin provides.

While the 80/20 rule seems like a sound general guideline and likely informs Garmin's algorithms, I'm not inclined to benchmark Garmin's recommendations against other concepts.

Again, thanks for your insights, and best regards,

    V.
