How to install an update manually?

I'm facing the apparently unfamous update problem with Garmin Express. I've had my Forerunner 255 Music for two days, and Garmin Express says it's already up to date in version 10.10 [DFU-768d81] though the latest version is 15.19 according to this forum. And indeed, I can't install applications from ConnectIQ because it's actually out of date. So I was wondering if there was an alternative to Garmin Express to update my watch.

I have similar issues sometimes. First make sure you have auto updates switched on. Then, having Garmin Express running on the computer, connect the watch to the computer with the charging cable for at least a few minutes. In my cases it usually happens that during that time the update is downloaded in the background and once I unplug the watch, it asks me if I want to install the new update.

Right now the issue is with Garmin servers. Nobody seem to be able to update software currently.

But with the Music watch, you can also just leave WiFi on, and it will update itself when Garmin makes anything available again.

We are aware that a number of X55 devices are unable to update. If a Product Support agent has not already added you to the report, please tag me with permission to reach out via email so you can be added. We hope to have a fix soon, but do not have a timeline for a release yet.

You used to be able to manually download firmware files from Garmin.com, which other sites used to mirror/backup. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.

If Garmin servers/apps are unavailable for whatever reason, we now have no alternative.

Software version 15.19 has been made available, so anyone who syncs through Garmin Express should now be able to update their unit to that version. If you would like to enroll in our Beta Software program, you will need to update to 15.19 first, and then follow the steps in Enrolling in and Learning About Garmin Beta Software Program.

If you are still unable to update your watch, please start a new thread.
