Obstacle racing activity

Not according to the Garmin website. 

But what does it mean? They don't plan adding the activity now or at all? And I wonder what is the reason? Is it technically possible to add it to 255?

Garmin always adds some activities only on their high end watches, and not on the "cheaper" ones. So this activity, almost surely, won't make it on the 255.

I've heard that some people were able to "sideload" some apps taking them from another watch that had them. They did that by connecting the supported watch to a pc, browsing its files, taking the desired app, then connecting the unsupported watch and putting the app on there. But I don't know if that would work.

In latest beta firmware for 255 they added new activities:

"Adds new activities for team sports, racket sports, and more."

Let me try to install the .fit activity file from Fenix 6

A friend of mine sent me the .fit file from F6 for Obstacle Race activity, I've uploaded it to my watch (directory GARMIN -> Sports), but it looks like it doesn't work. On the watch I can see it as Other activity with regular Running logo (on Fenix it has different icon) and there are no additional data screens as they appear on the Fenix... so I guess it doesn't work unfortunately. Maybe a file from Fenix 7 will work?

That's true, but looking at this www8.garmin.com/.../June2023.pdf it seems that neither the fr255 nor the fr955 (nor the 265 or 965) are getting the obstacle racing activity.

It's also true that it doesn't make sense to put that type of activity in an outdoor watch and not to put it in a triathlon watch. Maybe it's just a question of time and they will get it in some months.

Yeah, I saw the pdf file (thanks to that I've found out, about this new activity type ;-). I'll keep my fingers crossed for adding the activity type to FR255 series. OCR is what I mainly do, so it would be a game changer for me.

BTW, I wonder if anything else is missing to install the .fit file from another watch. I mean: if activityname.fit file from GARMIN -> Sports dir is sufficient, or there some additional file that needs to be transferred.

The new activities being added in the new beta are not related to the new custom obstacle racing activity, they are just some generic activities that help you record without having to change the type later in garmin connect. These are the ones coming to the 255, taken from a video by DC Rainmaker (the 955 has the same plus some motorsports ones):

I've never tried sideloading, so I don't know what it is needed. Maybe someone else here knows how to do it. Or it could be that it is just not possible.
