External HR connected with ANT instead of bluetooth and 'lags' out on the first run?

External HR: Polar Verity Sense.

I have had this Polar Verity Sense for over a year now, it's brilliant, always reliable, and doesn't get annoying to wear (I found an HR strap annoying at times).

When I connected the Verity for the first time (over a year ago), I never considered whether I should connect it using Bluetooth or ANT.
I noticed it was always connected via Bluetooth and never had problems.

Today I switched it to ANT (or ANT+ I'm not sure actually if the '+' was there), and noticed after half an hour it started to lag out quite a bit, how can this be happening?

I paused the run, deleted the sensor, and reconnected it with Bluetooth. No issues afterward.

I did nothing different than all the other times it worked fine.

Why would this be happening?
