Aerobic base training plan running

Hi there,

I'm looking for a training plan that's focussed on building my aerobic base for running, based on heart rate zones (e.g. "run 20 mins in zone 2).

I know there are training plans available in Garmin Connect for 5k, 10k, half marathon, etc., but I can't find any that are only focussed on aerobic base (for many weeks or months). E.g. MAF method.

I'm looking for people's experience in this regard. It's okay for me to set up the workouts and training plan in Garmin manually, if someone has a good PDF etc. plan that I can borrow from?

Thanks in advance :)

  • If that's the only thing you want to do, you could just set a heart rate alert in the run activity settings. Then, whenever you exceed the specified treshold, the watch will notify you that your HR is too high, just as it would in a workout.
You would still have to decide which days to run, and how long to run on each of these days. You could probably use daily suggestions for guidelines - instead of starting the activity that is proposed for a given day (if it's not a base run), you can check workouts suggested for the next 7 days, and see the proposed length for a base run.
