Recovering lost data after sync was stopped by GDPR.

Yesterday I tried to sync my watch by WiFi, but nothing appeared in the Garmin cloud, even though the watch said it had synced successfully.

I eventually found a small popup in Connect web saying I had to confirm some updated Global Data Protection Regulation settings to allow Garmin to store my personal data.
When I synced again, I finally got some data (like steps) across. The watch did however refuse to transmit heart rate data and sleep data again, so those remained empty for the day.

I also tried to sync by bluetooth via the phone, and by cable to Garmin Express, but the data was still lost.
Is there a way to force the watch to sync the missing data again, as I can still see it in the watch?

  • Same error here. Today's activities did not sync, but it always said "sync complete" on the watch + in Garmin Connect app.

Currently trying to sync the watch with Garmin Express via cable to the computer, like you did.
Syncing and updating with Garmin Express somehow solved it! Read below:

  • Somehow it got solved!

Downloaded the latest version of Garmin Express and installed the program.
Connected the watch to Garmin Express via cable (WIndows 10).
Waited a loooong time for the watch to sync/update with Garmin Express (first time connecting watch to computer).
Then I updated some of the apps on the watch, via Garmin Express (similar to Garmin Connect IQ updating).
Then I checked Garmin Connect, and today's activities (2 runs) were there!

I don't know if it was the Garmin Express sync, or if it was the Garmin Express app update that solved it.
(I dont believe a firmware update to the watch occured, as I believe I received version 14.20 several months ago wirelessly)

I hope this could help others. Good luck!
