Low active calories from steps on Forerunner 255 vs 245.

  1. I have changed my watch from forerunner 245 to 255. I have noticed that active calories from steps are much lower vs 245. For example when I did 11k steps on 245 it counted 535 active calories (+2230 pasive). Now on 255 when I have walked 11k steps it is showing 184 active calories (+2221 pasive cal.) Is this normal? Do I'm missing some settings? The difference is not so small to me.
  • I have this same concern. I went from Vivoactive 3 to forerunner 255 and if I did a run in the morning and walked my ~10K steps I'd make it to 700 calories without any issue. now I'm finding that load only gets me to ~500 calories. I'm reading that 2200 steps should be about 100 calories, so that matches with my previous experience. the FR 255 seems stingy.

  • Exactly the same for me. 700 active for 23,000 steps. Think it's something to do with low power heart rate mode. If I start a non GPS activity and leave it running all day my active calories jump to 1100 to 1200 for the same amount of steps and effort.

  • Same for me, almost for every type of activity, even resting.

Changed from 245 to 255 few weeks ago, and my average active and resting calories is much less in the 255. Maybe just for running with GPS its the same. But for indoor cardio and resting is way less...

  • Forerunner 255 definitely has a fault in regards to this as if I restart the watch in the morning I leave with around 50 active calories whereas if I don't leave with 1!!

Also noticed if you do exactly the same route as a walk and then as a hike, the hike will consistently have around 200 active calories less than the walk profile.
