What is the best way to track cycling FTP with a second device (Fenix 5)

Hi everybody,

I run and I do indoor cycling among other activities.

I want to have the advantage of the new sensors and algorithms of my new FR 255 but I need the cylding FTP autodetect functionality of my old Fenix 5.

I want to use the FR as my daily watch (primary device) and I am thinking in using the Fenix 5 on my indoor cycling sessions connected to a power meter so that it autodetects changes of my FTP.

I want to have all the activities on the FR and that it accounts for the load, fitness level and recovery time of the indoor sessions

What would be the smartest way to do this?

A. Should I use just the Fenix 5 to record the indoor cycling sessions? Would the FR include these activities generated by Fenix 5 in the FR algorithms of recovery time, load, etc?

B. Should I record these sessions with both watches?

Thank you and have a nice Easter!

  • In the newest beta version of the FR255 firmware, automatic detection of the threshold power is supposed to be working for running. Maybe it works for cycling as well? It is worth a try.

  • Thank you. I will definetly give that a try. I am not that optimistic, because Garmin service replied to me that the cycling FTP is not going to be implemented in the 255. So, please everyone keep suggesting answers to my request. Slight smile
