I have a fenix 5, and it works like a charm. I do wonder if its worth an upgrade to a 255 or even 265?
I dont use many of the features on the fenix 5 and mostly run. Maybe plan to do a triathlon in the future.

Well, if you're coming from Venu 2, there really won't be any change there, or in a positive direction. The problem is that with AOD you have ~5 days of runtime on the FR265, and you haven't sported…
Oxygen and breathing stats are quite useless, as they are not very accurate or trustworthy. 255 does not have training readiness. Body battery and HRV are nice.
I don't know what your focus is, in any case I would think twice about it. A topic in the fr955 forum is worth reading. Keep in mind that the amoled will hold up much less in bright sun. But is comfortable indoors. And has running dynamics
At the moment, half marathon running then marathon next year. Mostly running. I have a HRM Run, so have the running dynamics. Will check out the topic thanks
I'm not sure how the Fenix 5 is less capable than the Forerunner 255/265, but I'd forget the 265 unless you're running in the dark and/or between four walls.
Simply the MIP display on a sport watch is better. AMOLED is nice, but it consumes a lot of power, can't go on all the time (because it would consume even more and might even burn in) and is less readable outdoors.
Oh, and nowhere have I seen it described (or mentioned in a review) that the 265 has a light meter. Without that, an AMOLED is useless in my opinion.
I've used the Venu 2 for a while and will be upgrading to the Forerunner 265. Battery life is a little bit of a concern when using AOD but as far as visibility I've had NO issues viewing the watch in full sunlight. Venu 2 has an AMOLED display.

I'd rather look at a less pretty MIP display than a limited AOD (because you can't see everything there, after all). Here I don't have to press anything, shake anything, to see the watch display. In the dark, of course, you need lighting, but that's so rare (in the street at night, in a car) that it's not worth mentioning. However, when I go out rowing or cycling, I can see the display perfectly well from any angle, in any amount of sunshine, for any length of time (because it really is always on).
Why is battery such an issue? Pluggin any kind of Garmin watch into a charger and in a couple of minutes of fast-charging the watch picks up plenty of % of battery power.
Visibility is a different issue and surely something everybody has a an own perspective on. Having changed from MIP to a Venu2 I would probably not go back to MIP. With AOD on during workouts visibility indoors and outdoors is perfect, drop of battery level is moreover no issue. Charging for just a couple of minutes once in a couple of days makes the watch run comfortably.
In general the fenix 5 is fine. I do want some of the new features on the 255/265 that isnt on the 5. I am missing oxygen stats, breathing stats, body battery, training readiness, HRV readings.
That being said, I dont know if they are just gimicky and Im falling for the marketing
