GPS wrong again

I had issues with GPS in the previous firmware. It was erratic, lacking distance and producing inconsistent paces.

I solved it changing the GPS data gathering from smart to every second.

New firmware, and now it doesn't even work this way.

I did the same workout as yesterday... From 7km to 5km...

  • Did you by any chance record an activity straight before or straight after the run?

    I had this happen once :

    1)Stopped my watch: had a really much lower than expected pace

    2)Started a walk for cooldown, almost instantly received a 1km pace alert

    3) At the end of the walk in total the 2 activities came to the correct distance.

    4)On Connect all the numbers were wrong yet the maps were right per each activity

    5)Everything looked absolutely normal on Strava from the garmin data.

    Garmin didn't seem interested.

  • Do you use some extra speed sensor, like a footpod og HRM Pro? If so, is it set to be used outdoors?

  • No extra sensors, only the basic Garmin chest band.

  • I did another run, it was another disaster...

    GPS/pace was erratic from 3-12 min./km...I had to stop, change data recording from every second to smart and back again to start working.

    Position on the map is simply wrong when it works badly, pace and distance too...

    I'd like to see some of these activities so we can look into this further. Please respond to the following if you are experiencing this: 

    1. May we have permission to email you?

    2. May we have permission to view your Connect account?

    3. In which country are you located?

    4. Please list 1 or 2 example activities by date where you experienced poor GPS signal.

  • 1- Ok.

    2- Ok.

    3- Spain.

    4- March 1 and 2, the exact same course, day 1 working ok 7.07km, day 2 5.78km.

    PS: BTW it is unacceptable to have to force a brand new watch to work from smart to Every Second pulling data wasting battery, if this can't be solved VERY SOON I should be able to ask a refund...I'm/was in love with Garmin devices...but I cannot ignore the fact that every single time I go train I have to care about my device working ok for the first training moments...With my old FR235 I had zero issues...it was just push and go...so please solve the issue or refund us/upgrade the device.

  • I have not tried this. It seems a little aggressive if not recommended directly from Garmin.
