Sunset/sunrise difference main screen and menu screen

When looking at my watch I have set the data entry sunrise/sunset so you don't need to go to the menu to see the sunrise/sunset. However when I do go to the menu where you can also find the  sunset/sunrise there is a difference of a couple of minutes. This difference cannot be explained by looking at the next or previous day.

Today 2 March 2023 (in The Netherlands), Garming Forerunner 255S:

On the main screen it says: sunrise: 7:25.

In the menu it says: sunrise: 7:26. (fyi tomorrow it says: 7:23 and yesterday: 7:28, so nowhere the 7:25 is mentioned)

Can this bug be fixed?

Thanks it advance.

  • This might not be a bug as such. Do you spend time in different places e.g. a moderate daily commute? For instance the difference you cite for today would line up with the difference between AMS and somewhere around Den Haag. The clock face data field might be updated at dawn for where you are while on the widget it's a real time calculation( but you can set current or specific locations). It is unlikely it keeps looking it up all day to save battery.

What happens to the watchface and the widget/glance should you power cycle your watch.

  • Thanks for your reply. It is an interesting idea. However I notice this difference also when I'm multiple days at exact the same location, i.e. didn't travel farther than 1 km. It seems to be a constant difference not depending on how far I've travelled that day. Also charging doesn't seem to influence this behaviour.

It would be interesting to indeed verify when the watchface sunrise/sunset widget data is being updated compared to when the sunrise/sunset data is updated in the menu. Any idea who can be asked for this at Garmin to verify?

  • My watchface is updated at midnight. The time for next sunrise changed from 23:59 to 00:00.
I am guessing the glance is updated when the widget is opened.
