14.15 Bug ( Long-standing regression ) Flight mode allows sync despite icons showing otherwise!!

Issue:

Flight mode serves seemingly no purpose and should be removed if aviation policy allows bluetooth during flights.

Maybe call it something else e.g "Disable BLE" ( a bit techy ) or something more accessible to the masses.

On the watch

Airplane mode : on

Watch says connection to phone is blocked:

On the Android App - it is syncing:

  • It is quite common to offer Wifi as well during flight.

  • yeah I find that too - it's just during take-off and landing they either demand flight mode or turn off phones completely ( less common these days )

    definitions from a few difference sources:

    What does Airplane Mode do?

    Airplane mode or Flight mode is a setting on your phone that disables the device’s cellular radio, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

    * Wikipedia *

    Airplane mode (also known as aeroplane mode, flight mode, offline mode, or standalone mode) is a setting available on smartphones and other portable devices. When activated, this mode suspends the device's radio-frequency (RF) signal transmission technologies (i.e., Bluetooth, telephony and Wi-Fi)

    Implementations can vary a lot e.g my Oppo phone lets you turn on flight mode, then override the wifi so that comes back on.  Meanwhile it does nothing with bluetooth.

  • my Oppo phone lets you turn on Wifi whilst airplane mode is still on, at least it's still got cellular turned off which I guess is the top priority.

    a lot of definitions on the internet mention cell, wifi and BLE being included in scope of airplane mode
