FR255 button

Poor / inconsistent haptic feedback from buttons.

Varies between buttons (generally better with click felt on start & light buttons, squishy with no end feel on other buttons).

Vaties between presses for same button.

Garmin hardware is usually good so this was a big surprise.

You could argue this is a cheap watch but it isn't (only cheap relative to other very expensive Garmin watches).

Garmin needs to get a handle on R&D costs for both hardware & software and must not cut corners on the basics.

A plethora of devices may increase market penetration but increasing device costs might reduce share, particularly with emerging competition.

    1. Last month i also bought my first garmin watch. I choose fr255 and i am suprising a softy or weak double clicked of buttons. We should get used to it, because it's a feature of the model...
  • Similar issues with FR255 Music. Start/Stop and Back buttons have very long travel (almost like a 2-step action) before contact point + Back button is very sticky and not always fully retracting. Build quality feels inferior to my old FR935. :-(

  • What I see is that any of the buttons can feel a bit different depending on how I reach for it. They are smoothest when you squeeze the watch between opposing thumb and finger and push the button straight in. If you push the button with a lot of sheering force instead of straight in, it does seem possible for it to bind up and not make the switch contact, so I'd have to try again to get the function to register. I only see this happen if I don't squeeze the watch but just try to push a button against the tension of the watch band.

After a bit of experimentation, this characteristic seems roughly the same for all buttons on my watch, not specific to the START and BACK buttons reported by others. I wonder if some folks have a tendency to use a different grip/operating technique for the two sides of the watch, and so get different results for the two sides?

  • I have the same experience. The buttons work best when pushed towards the center of the watch.
